Special Eno River Workday – Planting Trees
January 18 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Special workday this Saturday, January 18th, 10AM, meeting at the vacant lot next to 317 Omega Road in Durham. We will be planting trees! Last summer we put in an order of trees with the NC Forest Service and they just arrived! These are native trees, wet root trees that we can plant along the river. A mixture of hardwoods and pines.
The story is there were a lot of large trees in that area that got cut down when a new sewer line was installed. We started to plant trees, but despite Durham water management only having a 10-foot-wide access easement out there, they mowed a strip from 30 to 150 wide. The lack of tree roots out there is a huge erosion problem. Last year they finally agreed to mow only their 10-foot easement. Thus we can plant trees in that area, outside the 10-foot easement.
For this Saturday there is a chance of rain, so dress appropriately.
We will provide the tools.
