Johnston County MST Workday at Bentonville Battlefield
January 11, 2025 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Volunteers are needed at Bentonville on Saturday, January 11th, 2025 to help clear a new stretch of trail (reroute) just beyond the Michigan Engineers Trenches Trail. Work will include raking and pulling the heavy debris off the trail, removing small trees, clipping overhanging branches away, and all other finish work – it’s labor intensive, but no special skills are needed. We will have the trail outlined and we will work as long as time permits; this project will probably take 2 workdays.
We will meet at the visitor center and then walk over to the section of trail where the reroute will begin. We will drive over the trail equipment to the Michigan’s Engineers Trenches parking lot. We will have sawyers on site, but you can only use a chainsaw if you are certified (need a maximum of 3 certified sawyers).
WHEN: Saturday, January 11, 2025 – 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
WHERE: Visitor Center – 5466 Harper House Rd, Four Oaks, NC 27524 https://maps.app.goo.gl/KZEZ4TgLN8hEq5AK9
WHAT TO WEAR: sturdy shoes, long pants, and long socks
WHAT TO BRING: heavy and light rakes, loppers, clippers, NO POWER TOOLS (reach out if you are a certified sawyer and want to bring a chainsaw; need a certificate to verify your status), extra water, gloves, bug spray, snacks, and sunscreen.
