In Segment 4, a portion of the trail along Steels Creek (EB Miles 46.6-52.6; WB Miles 24.2-30.2) is closed due to damage from Hurricane Helene. Until the MST reopens, use the following detour:

Eastbound Directions

0.0      At Mile 46.6, instead of turning right on FS 496, turn left.

5.8      Continue straight past trail on right with locked gate to rejoin the guide route at Mile 52.6.

Westbound Directions

0.0      At Mile 24.2, instead of turning left, continue straight on FS 496.

5.8      Turn right onto trail to rejoin the guide route at Mile 30.2. (If you reach the junction with FS 210, you’ve gone about 0.2 mile too far.)
