Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail and Friends of Johnston County Parks welcome all those interested in helping complete quarterly maintenance along a footpath trail through Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site in Four Oaks, NC. This quarterly maintenance workday is the second in a series of four for 2024.

Volunteers are needed at Bentonville on Saturday, June 29th to help clear the stretch of trail between the new Bullpen trailhead and the Marching of the Armies trailhead. The trail is brand new as of Fall 2023 and needs clearing of the overgrowth and fallen brush. Work will include raking and pulling the heavy debris off the trail, clipping overhanging branches away, lopping off new growth, and all other finish work – it’s labor intensive, but no special skills are needed. In fact, this is great work for well-supervised younger trail workers, too!

Volunteers should meet at the Bentonville Battlefield State Historic Site Visitor Center at 9 AM for an introductory safety talk, to sign a workday waiver and mark hours driven to site, and to be split up into work groups (dependent on number of volunteers). We encourage people to bring a water bottle and snacks for your trip; we will have bottles of water and snacks for those who can’t. We also encourage you to bring your own tools as we are limited, but we will also bring a handful of tools for those who don’t have any. While not required, please RSVP by Wednesday, June 26th so I can get an accurate count of volunteers: https://forms.gle/6x3Phjcxf7bnnQ5U9
