In Segment 6, a section of the MST in Stone Mountain State Park is closed for construction. Only a short section near the eastern end of the trail at John P. Frank Parkway is closed, but a much longer detour is required to connect through. Until the trail reopens, use the following detour:

Eastbound Directions

0.0         At Mile 7.7, instead of turning right, continue straight at trail sign where old roadbed goes right. The trail begins to descend.

0.6         At T-intersection, turn left on Stone Mountain Loop Trail.

0.7         Turn right at the T-intersection, following the sign to Stone Mountain. The trail on the left leads to the Lower Trailhead.

0.8         Cross a gravel road leading to the Hutchinson Homestead.

1.3         Continue onto a rock face with a cable guardrail. Over the next 0.1 mile, the trail crosses the rock face several times, with multiple boardwalks, steps, and cables.

1.6         Cross the summit of Stone Mountain.

1.9         Begin descending a set of seven switchbacks.

2.2         Cross rock face with views of Cedar Rock.

2.7         Pass  access road on  left.

2.9         At a standing chimney, turn left on the trail to the Upper Trailhead parking lot and Picnic Area.

3.1         Turn right at junction in open field. The trail straight ahead leads to the Upper Trailhead parking lot.

3.5         Continue straight on main path through picnic area and bear left at parking lot.

3.6         At end of parking lot, continue onto park road.

3.8         At 4-way intersection with Stone Mtn. State Park Visitor Center driveway, turn right on John P. Frank Parkway.

3.9         Pass other end of Visitor Center driveway.

4.3         Continue past campground entrance on left.

4.5         Pass Oklahoma Rd. on left.

4.9         Turn left on Mosswood Rd. to rejoin the guide route at Mile 13.1.

Westbound Directions

0.0         At Mile 57.0, instead of turning left on John P. Frank Parkway, turn right.

0.4         Pass Oklahoma Rd. on right.

0.6         Continue past campground entrance on right.

1.0         Continue past Stone Mtn. State Park Visitor Center driveway on right.

1.1         At 4-way intersection with other end of Visitor Center driveway, turn left toward picnic area.

1.3         Reach Picnic Area parking lot and bear right.

1.4         At end of parking lot, continue onto main path through picnic area.

1.8         At T-intersection in open field, turn left. The trail to the right leads to the Upper Trailhead parking lot.

2.0         At T-intersection, turn right on Stone Mtn. Loop Trail.

2.2         Pass access road on right.

2.7         Cross rock face with views of Cedar Rock.

2.9         Begin ascending a set of seven switchbacks.

3.3         Cross the summit of Stone Mountain.

3.4         Continue onto a rock face. Over the next 0.1 mile, the trail will cross the rock face several times, with multiple boardwalks, steps, and cables.

4.1         Cross a gravel road leading to the Hutchinson Homestead.

4.2         Turn left at trail intersection.

4.3         Turn right onto Wolf Rock Trail.

4.9         Take right fork at a signed trail junction to rejoin the guide route at Mile 62.4.
