Beginning October 5, 2026, a section of the MST/Sam’s Branch Greenway (EB Miles 32.7-35.0; WB Miles 32.7-35.0), between Covered Bridge Rd. and O’Neil St., will be closed due to sewer construction. The trail closure specifically covers 1,000 feet in the middle of the section, but the detour described below extends between the two trailheads.

The closure is expected to last until February 2027. Until the trail reopens, use the detour described below.

Eastbound Directions

0.0         At Mile 32.7, instead of continuing on greenway, turn left on path to Covered Bridge Rd. Trailhead parking lot.

0.1         Cross parking lot and turn left on Covered Bridge Rd.

0.5         Continue straight onto O’Neil St. where Covered Bridge Rd. turns right.

1.3         Turn left on Atwood Dr.

1.4         Turn right into Sam’s Branch Greenway Trailhead parking lot, then turn right on greenway to rejoin the guide route at Mile 35.0.

Westbound Directions

0.0         At Mile 32.7, turn left into Sam’s Branch Greenway Trailhead parking lot.

0.1         Turn left on Atwood Dr., then turn right on O’Neil St.

0.9         Continue straight onto Covered Bridge Rd.

1.3         Just beyond bridge over Neuse River, turn right into Covered Bridge Rd. Trailhead parking lot.

1.4         Turn right onto greenway to rejoin the guide route at Mile 35.0.
