Beginning some time the week of August 24, a portion of Segment 10 near the Tailrace Fishing Area (EB Miles 80.4-80.7; WB Miles 0.0-0.3) will be closed due to a logging project. Logging will be moving to other nearby areas in the coming weeks. Until the MST reopens, use the following detour, which will be updated as the closure changes:

Eastbound Directions

0.0      At Mile 80.4, instead of crossing the road, turn left.

0.2      As you reach the dam, turn right onto a path leading past a playground.

0.3      Reach the Falls Lake Tailrace Fishing Area, the end of the detour and of Segment 10. To continue on Segment 11, walk through the parking area toward Old Falls of Neuse Rd.

Westbound Directions

0.0      At Segment 10 Mile 0.0, instead of going on the trail past the kiosk, take the path at the top of the parking area.

0.1       At the top of the dam, turn left onto the park access road.

0.3      At a marked trail crossing, turn right onto a gravel road with white dot blazes on posts on either side to rejoin the guide route at Mile 0.3.
