DESCRIPTION:The cool season is almost upon us! With it comes the perfect weather for working on the MST in the Coastal Crescent! September is the MST’s birthday month\, and during it we have 4 exciting days of trail work scheduled for ongoing projects in Sampson County. Please consider joining us and being a part of this transformative work to expand and improve the MST! \nThese workdays will all offer both basic trail maintenance work that doesn’t require special skills or training like cutting limbs or raking\, as well as more technical installation of trail infrastructure like access gates and bollards. No matter what your level of experience is\, there are great ways to contribute! \nTuesday\, September 23: 12:00pm – 4:00pm\nWhere: Meet at the entrance of Straw Den Lane in Roseboro\, NC.\nDetails & Registration \nDIRECTIONS: Western District Park in Roseboro\, NC is a Sampson County park facility with ball fields and a paved walking trail accessed from West Clinton Street. Straw Den Lane in Roseboro\, NC is a private drive off of White Woods Road where Friends of the MST owns a 2.5 acre property and is developing a trailhead parking area; that parking area is the first left on this private drive and will be marked. \nWHAT TO BRING: heavy rakes\, loppers\, hand saws\, clippers\, mattocks\, extra water\, gloves\, sun screen\, snacks and/or a packed lunch (except for events where lunch is provided). Please make sure to label your tools so that yours go home with you. If you don’t have any of these tools\, we will provide what is needed. \nWEAR: sturdy closed-toe shoes\, long pants\, long socks\, a hat for sun protection. \nCOMPLIMENTARY LUNCH: Sandwiches and chips will be provided for attendees on Sunday 9/28. To help us know how much to order\, please make sure to register for this event in advance (links above). DESCRIPTION:This workday is cancelled due to high probability for inclement weather. \nJoin us for an exciting workday in Roseboro where we will be holding the very first workday to begin clearing a new section of the MST on a recently acquired trail easement between the Western District Park and Will Road. We will be clearing vegetation and debris to begin opening up and improving visibility along the 3/4 mile corridor. This new trail corridor has only been seen by a handful of people involved in the process of acquiring the easement and we can’t wait to share it with others and begin to see the trail take shape! \nThe days events will be focused on establishing the exact path of the trail within the 30′ easement to avoid obstacles as well as clearing small trees and undergrowth. This will open up sight-lines along the new trail corridor and make space for future large tree removal and soothing of the trail-bed. \nWHERE: Meet at Roseboro’s Western District Park at 701 W Clinton St\, Roseboro\, NC 28382 \nDIRECTIONS: Western District Park is a large open park with multiple ball fields and a paved walking trail that encircles it. We will be parking and meeting up in the gravel parking area to the South that will be on the far left upon driving into the park. We will park there and walk along the paved trail to the new easement area. \nWHAT TO BRING: Loppers\, clippers\, hand saws\, mattocks\, extra water\, gloves\, sun screen\, bug spray\, and a packed lunch/snacks. Please make sure to label your tools so that yours go home with you.
