Take the 40 Hike Challenge – Hike all 40 hikes in our new guide, Great Day Hikes on North Carolina’s Mountains-To-Sea Trail. The 40 featured hikes highlight many of the most special spots on the 1175-mile MST as it crosses through small towns, national and state parks, quiet backroads, and historic sites. The hikes have been carefully chosen to appeal to hikers of all experience levels.

Discover the MST a day hike at a time by completing all 40 hikes. Friends of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail will send you a special patch featuring the 40 Hike Challenge logo when you finish!

Things happen. It could be a construction project, storm damage, or wild animal issues, but we sometimes have to close or detour around parts of the trail. To be sure you have the latest information on the 40 Day Hikes or anywhere on the MST, check our updates page before heading out on your hike.
Challenge complete! How do I submit an entry?
To report completion of the 40 Hike Challenge you can submit an online entry using the form below. All 40 hikes must be completed between March 23, 2020 and March 31, 2023.
